NYFW DAY 1.
Out the blue, I got an invite from NaturallyCurly to attend Texture on the Runway show on the first day of New York Fashion Week. Gagging! I always had, "to go to a real fashion show" on my bucket list, but never put much effort into actually realizing it. Call it grace, serendipity or luck this invite was in my inbox and I was going! Even though this event was on Thursday and we were just off on Monday for Labor Day and my vacation time is in the single digits, I was going to be in the building. But what to wear?!
I know I have watched The Devil Wear's Prada way too many times because I felt that I needed to be draped in Gucci, Fendi, Chanel and Prada and the fanciest of fancy clothes, all of which I don't have - I have a bag here and there but that's not an outfit! 1:45 in the AM and I'm sitting in a pile of clothes on the floor scrolling my favorite fashion bloggers IG pages trying to find inspiration and I came up with nothing. Nada! At this point i'm delirious and desperately want a few minutes of sleep before my 3.5 hour trek to New York so I just pulled the brightest, busiest piece of clothing I own and can fit from under the pile which happened to be my Lou & Grey Afterparty Luster jumpsuit. Laid my Guess faux fur on top and pulled this thick belt from out a box. It was starting to come together and I was getting my confidence back. "This outfit is dope", I thought. Now for shoes. I wanted something that was comfortable, yet eye catching so I could turn heads on the street. A bright pump just wouldn't do, so these delicious Brian Atwood leopard print T-strap heels were the winner. Prints on prints on texture!
Lets talk about the hair. I haven't washed my hair in 2 weeks just out of sheer exhaustion from non-stop business. So the only thing I could do was push the existing puff closer to the front of my head for an avant garde look. It's working, but don't look too closely because it's hella dirty!
Being a little sneaky I RSVP'd a couple other people under my invite because when I eat, we all do; so Sommar and Rashida were my plus 1 and 2 and we met at 8am and girl tripped it to the Big Apple. Before the show we ran into Dayna and Claire of Fashion Bomb Daily and we all oohed and aawed over each other's outfits and Claire asked if she could have her photographer take our pictures. Yes please! The way our day had been setup, there was no time to even grab a quick snap of our outfits.
So grateful for the day! I love New York, I loved the show, I love the company I keep and I loved my outfit! I got so many compliments and turned a lot of heads walking the streets to the event. I will say that the fashion on the streets was more relaxed than I thought. For the future a cute pair of vintage jeans, a band/military style jacket and even sneakers will do!
