MY GO TO AIRPORT LOOK
Who decided that athletic wear is the dress code for the airport? It cracks me up when I see people wear full out gym outfits on a 2 hour flight like it's that uncomfortable. I'm just saying, our grandparents wore wool and polyester suits everywhere - to marches, to the grocery store, the salon and barber shop. Don't get me wrong, I wear leggins to the airport but I like to reserve those for flights over 4 hrs. Like Mom always says, there's a time a place for everything. Because I don't like to look like I need someone to spot me at the gate, here's my top 5 things you need to achieve my go to airport look.
1. EASY OFF SHOES
Jump in, jump out. Don't be that person that holds up the security line because you have on sandals that lace up your leg or a cumbersome buckle or strap. Just don't.
2. COMFY PANTS
Let's leave the leggins for the gym or lounging at home. Trust me, there are jeans with enough Lycra in them that'll make you feel like you're wearing nothing. Wear those instead.
It doesn't matter what time of year you fly it will always be cold on the plane so I like to dress in the rule of 3. Learned this going to school in Ohio when the weather was unpredictable. First layer a comfy t shirt, second layer a sweater or swear shirt and then i'll layer a jacket. If I get too hot I can peel off a layer. If its cold at your destination you have a jacket to wear! #prepared!
4. SATIN LINED TURBAN
Honestly, if my hair isn't already in a protective style while traveling I'm keep it in twists under a satin lined turban like this until I land. No need in wasting good curl definition and risk dryness and frizz on the back of the head rest. So insert my satin lined turban from Loza Tam, handmade from Ghanaian entrepreneurs. There's no exaggeration when I tell you that I get a lot of compliments on this hat. To the eye I look like I have on a really cute turban, but what the world is actually witnessing is me sporting a fashionable protective tool for my natural hair. A win-win in my book. It's big enough for my big head plus all the volume from my type 4 hair.
Pro tip: Get creative and add a track or two for the illusion of bangs or hang time in the back.
5. A NICE CARRY ON BAG
The Coach weekender tote is life! it's been with me for years and serves me well on my commute to work and weekend trips because it's so roomy. It fits just about everything and is the perfect carry on size.
