MODERN BABY ROOM REVEAL
EASILY MY FAVORITE ROOM IN THE HOUSE
With baby girl just days away, my nesting itch is on a 1000 and I can't stop cleaning and arranging. I'm so proud of this space I created for her so I’ll put the sponge down so I can share!
When I moved into The Misters’ bachelor pad, this room was the designated roommate/guest/catch all room that needed a lot of love. The ceiling had water damage, the carpet was worn and the walls like the rest of the house was a gross buttercup yellow which must’ve been popular when this house was built in the 90’s. In my mind it was the perfect space to transition into a baby room. After a little convincing, The Mister was on board and I got the green light to gut! We patched the roof, replaced the celling and carpet, installed an ELFA system in the closet and most importantly painted!
ABOUT THESE WALL COLORS
I struggle with color, especially the girly ones, so I just stayed in my lane and picked this beautiful deep fig color from Sherwin-Williams. It’s not your average sweet as pie baby girl color or décor for that matter, but feminine just the same. To make this accent wall pop, I painted - or should I say had my mom paint the rest of the room a crisp white. There are a lot of unique pieces in the room but this accent wall is the star and I absolutely love it! This room gets a lot of light during the day and the crisp white walls bounce a lot of light around the room so I really get to appreciate the true purple color. I love the quality of Sherwin-Williams paint because just one coat covered all that yellow, dirt and smudges making this a quick paint project.

This is a baby room after all so a crib is a must. I live for these acrylic bars not only so can I peep in on baby, but so that the accent wall I love so much isn’t blocked! Like my shoes I pick style over comfort so I had to have this black velvet armchair rather than a rocking chair. I may regret that in the short-term but long-term baby girl has a head start in functional furniture pieces as she transitions through the years. The black and white bone in-lay table is that unique piece that instantly adds architectural attitude and drama; a visual stimulation this room needed.
This room is fairly small, 130x130 to be exact, so I used every decorating trick to make the room seem larger. l took these custom velvet drapes close to the ceiling to bring the eye up giving the illusion of height. By adding this giant mirror amplifies light which further brightens and expands the room not to mention changing the carpet to a lighter color gives the illusion of more open space.
The rich chartreuse color is the perfect pop adjacent to the purple wall but also serves as texture and shade so baby can nap during the day.
Space is limited in our house so buying a proper dresser or changing table is out of the question. By repurposing this console table as diaper storage and my changing area, it’s both super stylish and functional. Add a low maintenance, slip proof changing pad for safety and this area is ready to handle all the scary diaper changes to come!
A leopard rug to finish and anchor the room, a handmade rocking horse from a late Aunt and of course children books that remind you again that this is a kids room and you have a modern chic baby room! Really quick, the rug size pictured is 3x5 which works, but I feel is incredibly small for the space. I exchanged it for a 5x8 which makes that more of a stylish impact in the room.
I’m incredibly happy with the final makeover, easily my new favorite room in the house! This space is where style meets practicality and will transition with baby girl throughout the years and I can’t wait to bring her home.
