Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of my readers! The holiday hustle is just about over and it’s time to kick back and relax. I love this time of year because my little family is finally in the same place at the same time.

I recently had a giveaway, 12 Days of Ondia J Give-O-Way, and I asked daily holiday themed questions. It was fun to read all of the responses so I figured to answer them too. Here we go…

1.      What is your favorite holiday tradition?

I love that this is the time of year my little family is all under one roof because we’re scattered across the states. It’s just me, the boo, my younger brother, the parentals, grand parentals, aunt and her fiancé - that’s it.  Depending on who’s hosting – lately it’s at the Grands in Kentucky because they don’t need to be traveling far – we’ll typically drive in because there’s so much to pack and that too is a part of the holiday tradition. Christmas to me is road trip, holiday music, qt in the car, naps, rest stops, Waffle House and the road. As annoying as the drive is going and coming (cough, 9+ hrs each way) it’s all that quality time that we look back on cherish and chuckle about.

2.      What do you want for Christmas?

I don’t ask for anything because I can never think of what I want when someone asks me and I never like what someone gets me just because. But after some thought, I want camera, videography and editing lessons! Truth be told I really don’t know how to use my Canon 70D. I’m self-taught so right now I’m just mashing buttons and hoping that pictures and video come out right. If I really knew what I was doing instead of winging it every time it would save a lot of time and heartache. Plus, I’m always a student to my craft.

3.      What is your Favorite Holiday memory?

When I was younger the preparation of Santa on Christmas Eve was a serious occasion. I watched all the Holiday Christmas specials, my letter to Santa was written and decorated and the cookies were made and platted.  I remember Santa wrote me back one year, OMG! I couldn’t stop talking about it. I told everyone that Santa wrote me back!

I found that letter years later - it was my grandmother’s handwriting.

4.      What was the worst gift you received?

Clothes from grandmother, Ugh! Because I’ve always been a little thick and tall, she just shopped in the women’s section for me.  It didn’t matter what age I was, my clothes always had shoulder pads, a grown silhouette, pattern or design. Leave it my mother to enforce that her gifts were worn. Let’s just say I always had an extra pair clothes in my backpack when I went to school.

5.      What is your favorite food that you only eat around the holidays?

We eat Thanksgiving food at Christmas so I really love that combination scoop of mac and cheese, potato salad and cranberry sauce! As far as sweets go, I’m simple in that department and chocolate chip cooks or ice cream is all I need.

6.      How does your family open gifts?

It’s an all-day affair that never starts on time and take too long. Because there’s no kids we pretty much wake up whenever. Whoever makes it to the kitchen first will make coffee and a little breakfast. We’ll pass out gifts and open them one by one. This is where my patience leaves the building because it takes us about 3 hours to get through everyone and their gifts. If you watched my instastories this past Christmas you witness the shenanigans. After that, we change into our “real clothes” and have Christmas Dinner in the dining room, you know that room you only eat in on formal occasions. After dinner we’ll find our corners and nap because… itis. Then we’ll wake and eat again, watch movies and open our stockings. Stocking are my favorite because there’s no rules! I can open everything with the quickness!

7.      If you can take a trip anywhere for the holidays, where would it be?

I want to go to the Motherland! That was actually the plan to go the entire month of December to Cameroon where my Boo is from but there is some civil unrest and it’s not safe so we’ll table that trip for another date. But give me an ocean and some libations and it’s the best trip for me.

8.      What do you look forward to the most during the Holiday season?

I look forward to being off from work! That’s both career and the blog. The last 2 weeks of December is the true down swing of all hustles because people are taking off, offices are closing and most brand projects are turned in. I really get a chance to relax and sleep in because the only thing on my calendar is attending Holiday Parties. Not much stress in getting dressed.

9.      What is your favorite Holiday movie?

I loooove Chevy Chase Christmas Vacation – Pure comedy! Jim Carey, The Grinch, The Preachers Wife, A Christmas Story, A Muppets Christmas Carol and Nightmare Before Christmas and Clause.

10.  What is your favorite Holiday song?

The Preachers Wife soundtrack. Period. And then of course the Temptations, Jackson 5, Destiny’s Child, and Mariah Carey.

11.  What is your most memorable Christmas Day story?

That’s a tough one. I don’t have one that sticks out particularly, but when I was I younger there was a just a magical vibe that lead up to Christmas day. I think once I have my own family and create those traditions with them I’ll be able to answer this a little better. Come back to me.

12.  What was the best gift ever received?

Remember Tamagotchi Pets? I wanted one of those soooo bad. I was about 8 or 9 years old, my dad was in the Army and we were stationed Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. The whole island was sold out of the toy. My parents legit took me to every store and they were out! Devastated. Thanks to my Aunty Dee she came through and sent me one from the States.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!
